PROJECT 1

SPATIAL TRANSLATION

experiencing space

brief

To identify and explain different modifying elements in architecture, and how they inform spatial use and experience. To generate design through conscious consideration of spatial typologies, section-plan relationship, contextual conditions and considerations of human scale, natural light, materiality and textures.

outcome

2 A3 sized panels for precedent studies (1 panel for each selected modifying element)

4 A3 sized panels for the spatial translation including floor plan(s), section(s), elevation(s), perspective images (exterior and interior) of poetic spaces

Write-up of not more than 300 words (12 points type size) to be included on one of A3 panels

In a group of 4, we were assigned to create a design based on precedent studies on poetics of modifying elements. My group and I decided to study on the elements of light, shadow, texture and touch through the analysis of Yad Vashem Holocaust History Museum and House VR by Lezze. Our interpretation of the written passage given was that the journey through childhood and adolescence can be challenging but serves as a learning experience and preparation for adulthood. Our design, Le Memoirs, is based on this interpretation as well as the use of the human senses during a person's formative years.
