PROJECT 2
DESIGNING WITH ARCHITECTURAL PRINCIPLES + MATERIALITY
brief
To design a structure through the use of architectonics. To demonstrate a basic level of understanding of materiality and detailing as a way to showcase spatial and experiential qualities of the design.
outcome
monochromatic final model within a 125m3 volume (scale 1:50)
2 process models
orthographic drawings plan (1), elevation (4) and section (2). (scale 1:50, same as model)
detail drawing (scale 1:5)
key drawings and diagrams
compilation of design process
In a group of 2, we were tasked to develop a design based on the design principles of Project 1. The design was to be inspired by the Covid-19 lockdowns, which acts as a source of reflection and challenge which leads to an introspective experience for the user. The structure was to act as an architectural folly with timber to be the main material used.
Narrative
A visual representation of children's perspectie in a global pandemic. The structure is meant for children below the age of 11. Through this structure, children are able to express different kinds of motion and bring out their active and adventurous behaviours. The structure provides different types of spatial experiences, starting from a lower floor to a higher floor, from a dark start to a bright end. It has a simple look on the outside but many experiences on the inside as the contrast in light will bring out their curiosity.
