PROJECT 2
TECTONICS
design principles, anthropometric and ergonomic exploration
brief
To study anthropometry and ergonomics and implement them into a structural design. To use timber and a supporting material in the design and understand the nature and characteristics. The structure should be based on a banal action and the integration of these elements would result in the understanding of tectonics.
outcome
tectonic scaled model within a 5m3 volume (scale 1:10-1: 20) using timber as main material
joints and joinery details (scale 1:1) x 1nos
orthographic drawings plan (1), elevation (1) and section (1). (scale 1:10-1:20)
exploded axonometric drawing (assembly methods and fitting)
joints and joinery details in axonometric (scale 1:5)
2 monochromatic A6 sized tattoo stamps
The banal action that I chose was SITTING as it is a common human movement that could be explored in terms of variation including types and postures. The structure that I have designed consists of 3 seating modules connected with a timber and steel frame. Each seating module is held with a similar frame and has an identical form. This form allows for 3 different types of seating and through the rotation of the form enables the user to experience the variation in seating.
